We’re looking for an enthusiastic Bubble Tea Specialist (Boba Barista) to join our team. You’ll be responsible for crafting high-quality bubble teas, cooking pearls to perfection, and delivering a fun, fast, and friendly guest experience. Whether you’re a bubble tea pro or a fast learner with a passion for drinks, we want to hear from you.
Ugly Dumpling Bubble Tea Specialist: Duties & Responsibilities
Your daily responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Beverage Crafting: Prepare and serve bubble tea beverages (milk teas, fruit teas, slushies, and lattes) following Ugly Dumpling’s standardized recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Topping Perfection: Cook and maintain the ideal texture, sweetness, and quality of boba pearls, popping boba, jellies, and other toppings throughout the day.
- Recipe Consistency: Measure, mix, and adjust ingredients (teas, syrups, powders, non-dairy creamers) to ensure every drink tastes identical and delicious.
- Menu Innovation: Suggest new drink ideas, seasonal specials, or creative variations to help evolve our bubble tea menu.
- Guest Experience: Greet every customer with a warm, energetic attitude and make recommendations based on their flavor preferences.
- Order Accuracy: Take customer orders accurately using our POS system, process cash/credit transactions, and handle payments efficiently.
- Problem Solving: Address customer concerns or special requests (sugar levels, ice adjustments, allergies) with a solution-oriented mindset.
- Workstation Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation including counters, blenders, shakers, sealing machines, and storage areas.
- Food Safety: Follow all local health department and Ugly Dumpling food safety protocols at all times (hand washing, glove use, temperature logs).
- Opening/Closing Duties: Assist with daily opening, closing, and shift-change tasks: equipment deep-cleaning, tea brewing, syrup refills, and topping prep.
- Inventory Monitoring: Keep an eye on stock levels of teas, syrups, toppings, cups, and lids — communicate restocking needs to management before you run out.
- Ingredient Storage: Properly store, date-label, and rotate all ingredients to ensure maximum freshness and quality.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by management to support the team and restaurant operations.
Ugly Dumpling Bubble Tea Specialist: Requirements & Qualifications
What you’ll need to succeed in this role:
- Experience: Previous experience as a barista, bubble tea maker, or food/beverage prep is a plus — but we are happy to train the right person with a great attitude.
- Attention to Detail: Strong ability to follow recipes exactly and maintain consistency across dozens of drinks per hour.
- Customer Service Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly, professional, and patient demeanor — even during rush hour.
- Bubble Tea Knowledge: Familiarity with bubble tea ingredients (tapioca pearls, tea brewing, lactose-free options) is preferred; willingness to learn is required.
- Speed & Accuracy: Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining drink quality and order accuracy.
- Basic Math: Comfortable with cash handling, making change, and measuring ingredients (ounces, grams, scoops).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods (full shift) and perform repetitive tasks (shaking, sealing, stirring).
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs (bags of tea, syrup jugs, ice, topping buckets).
- Schedule Flexibility: Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays — our busiest bubble tea hours.
